There must be about two feet of snow on the ground. I just trudged outside to check on the chickens. (They’re royally p*@@ed, by the way.) I also broadcast another 15 or so pounds of bird seed onto the snow in the back yard. Can your ankles get frostbite in ten minutes?
I’m back inside and my heart has finally stopped pounding from the exertion. Now I’m going to go play with my houseplants and forced bulbs and sing this little ditty: The snow won’t get me down…oh no…The snow can’t get me down.

I’ve never thought about forcing species Tulips, but your bakeri are so simple & elegant, I might have to try some next year. I had ‘Princes Irene’ at my old house. It’s a lovely Tulip with a nice scent. Your container sets it off perfectly. I’m glad you have beauty indoors to keep your spirits up.

Your Lilac Wonders look a lot more yellow than lilac. Is it just the way the light is hitting them? I have them growing in my garden and yours don’t have the pinky-lavender look I expect.

You were so smart to choose these particular bulbs…they are so cheery and light looking. The yellow pots are pretty, too. Thanks for your comment re: the birds; I was hoping you wouldn’t feel badly that I ‘corrected’ you;-) You are the plant expert, so you are perfectly fine with a little bird mistake! Me, I’m an expert at neither…I just like watching them. If I ever get out of (my house) I will look for your book. Right now I don’t think that will be until at least the middle of the week. Probably longer!

They make me so happy. Now my twigs, which I trimmed from a plum tree a month ago, are setting out their papery white blooms in my dining room.

Just got a copy of Grocery Gardening. What a fun book, filled with gardening info, nutrition, recipes and author input interspersed throughout the book. I love it. And those cute illustrations of the authors are great. Perfect book for a wanna-be gardener like me!

I want to live at your place! (chickens and all…:) Tulips just make the heart glad–you know spring can’t be that far away—no matter how much white stuff is piling up outside..!
My chickens are ticked, too! Hasn’t this been the worst winter ever? I just need to see some flowers! My DH bought me an azalea for Valentines Day and it is hanging in there, but it can’t last forever.
