I heard that lovely “beep…beep…beep” sound today that I associate with spring. No, it wasn’t a bird call. It was Chris, my UPS driver backing up after dropping off two big boxes of flower bulbs for my Maryland garden.
Spring! I love to walk around with the little dogs and see the garden awake.
Young yoshino cherry tree
I snapped my annual shot of a cute Papillion next to the young, flowering yoshino cherry tree. This year’s supermodel is Sarah.
The mixed daffodil bulbs are up and blooming by the driveway and near the hay field. There is a house I pass on the way to town with thousands of daffodils—all of the same variety. It’s quite a display. But I love the mix of all the different types of daffodils all mingled together. You can’t see them in this photo, but there are bunches of little muscari bulbs mingled among the daffs.
The edgeworthia that began blooming several months ago will soon be losing its flowers. This is a shrub that goes the extra mile with all-season interest. You can just see the flowering quince that’s about to burst forth in the background.

And speaking of plants with staying power, I love this lettuce mix that made it through the winter! But sadly, it is now chicken food since it is bitter. No worries though. I have a whole new crop of spinach and lettuce planted in the potager garden.
This year I am all about containers. The pansies and ornamental oregano make nice early spring transition plants. But I have big, big, big plans this year for containers!

Hi Cindy – Thanks! I think you’re referring to the ornamental oregano, or Origanum rotundifolium ‘Kent Beauty’. It is a lovely plant. – Robin
Spring is so much further along there. I think when you have a mix of daffodils the display lasts longer but is not as dramatic.
Where do you find ornamental oregano? I would love to find someone locally that has it!

Oh my, that Yoshino cherry tree is looking so beautiful! You know, I never grew any eastern-hemisphere flora, but seeing that cherry in bloom makes me think I’ve missed much.
May I make a request? Would you consider publishing an article on such exotic plants and trees, and where to grow them, and how to take care of them etcetera? I’ve noticed there aren’t many such articles floating on the net, and since I’ve long a silent reader of your blog, I’d rather read about these here than somewhere else.

I’m enjoying daffodils too. They’re alongside my hurricane fence. The nice part is that every yard in our block has them as well. It looks like our borders are flowers.

Blooming daffodils are a sure sign of arrival springs but other pictures depicting other flowers and plantations are also very beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us!

I wish I could see the Yoshino Tree for real! Your photos are really amazing. I imagined how wonderful it would be if there are Daffodils around that tree.
The photos are great! I could still remember last year when I went to Australia and I passed by a mountain full of Daffodils. It was the most spectacular flower garden I’ve ever seen.

Wow! Great photos! My cousin has Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Snow Cream’ at his place. This shrub is really wonderful during spring season. 😀
