Now, these aren’t really garden photos, but they do illustrate an important vantage point that we see from the garden.

The first photo is looking from our back yard into what we call the Back Forty. The Back Forty is a sort of weedy, semi-wilderness area that we keep cut so that the wild critters won’t feel too welcome to wander close to where we have little dogs, a cat and chickens milling about.

Tree line before tidying

As you can see, it’s not very pretty and it’s not very inspiring. The undergrowth is out of control and you can’t even see the trees for the forest, so to speak. It’s a wall of green.

After having done some clearing for our fledgling woodland garden (scroll down to the bottom of the post to see a photo) I decided we needed more of the same. The hearty tree guys spent the better part of two days limbing up trees, clearing brush and generally tidying the area.

It’s still a blank slate, but at least now it’s a tidy blank slate and we can see the trees.

Next step: Figure out the next step.

You have been busy. I love the forest and the trees. Isn’t it amazing how the different light gives a different view. That in addition to shrub removal. Are the pups venturing closer to the edge now?

You can really see a difference in the “after” photo. To me, the front of the forest looks a lot cleaner with the trees trimmed so you can see the trunks. Very calming and beautiful!

The after photo is lovely. Much neater and cleaner. I clicked through to your fledgling woodland garden to see the pictures of the chairs amongst the trees and think that this is going to be a very pleasant place to sit among the trees. A very pleasant setting. Your options are wide open on clearing out this area.

I wish I had the presence of mind to capture before and after shots. Whenever I do some work in our yard I invariably finish it and then wish that I had taken a photo of what it looked like beforehand. Your after photo is a definite improvement.

  • Love the tidy up, it looks great! I’ve just stumbled across your blog and am loving it, your portage and your herb bed are just gorgeous. Looking forward to visiting again soon =)

  • Looks like you did a pretty good job tiding up. Great photos too.

    Thanks for sharing,
Now I’ve got to do something about my back yard, ha.

Fantastic view now. I never thought that such things can be achieved in a forest.

I wonder how much time it did take to clean all the front. Wonderful results and pleasure for eyes 🙂
